Be Personally Responsible:
Work-life balance is your right as well as your responsibility. Speak up when the expectations are too high at work or your workplace demands way too much. Employers all need to be informed about where to draw the line in this competitive space.
Work Smart, not Long:
Just because you are spending all your waking time at work does not mean you are getting enough done. You need to identify potential bottlenecks that are slowing you down. Create a timesheet for every task and test your productivity. Unstructured meetings can be a major factor as they take up lots of time.
Take Sufficient Breaks:
A brisk walk or a quick chat every 90 minutes apart from at least half an hour for lunch can do wonders. Be efficient and productive by respecting the needs of your mind and body.
Draw The Line Between Work and Leisure:
Just the way you would not waste time at work, do not bring work home. If it is unavoidable, work in a designated area of the house. This way, you know that you can leave your work behind you when you enter your bedroom or personal space.
Make Time for Yourself:
Several things could be potentially eating into your time without adding any meaning. Focus on things that are importance to your physical and emotional well-being. For example, exercise, relaxation, hobbies, leisure activities and social activities.
Keep Track of Time:
Being aware of the hours spent at work also includes worrying or thinking about work when you are not at work. The cumulative effect of working long hours and excessive thinking about work is a good indicator of work-related stress.
Ask for Help & Seek Support:
If you need more help, ask for it. If you need assistance coping with stress, seek the support of your colleagues and your manager. The more open you are about the problem, the easier it becomes to change things are restore a state of harmony.
Striking a healthy work-life balance is neither an easy nor quick process. You need to make the effort and change the way you go about your routine and life. The best way is to periodically examine your priorities and make the necessary changes as you see fit.
